Every year, I love to shine a spotlight on fellow small businesses that have caught my eye. As someone who’s passionate about sewing and all things crafty, I know exactly what we want for Christmas. But for those who aren't as familiar with the craft world, it can be tough to figure out what to buy us. If you’ve ever been asked, "Is there anything you'd like for Christmas this year?"—this gift guide is for you!
I haven’t purchased all of these items, but I’ve only included businesses that have great reviews, customer policies, and are UK-based. These are all recommendations I genuinely love, and none of these businesses have sponsored this post—I just enjoy spreading the small business love.
When it comes to ordering online (and if you are a seller), there are a few things I would recommend considering. For Etsy sellers I always make sure they have policies and an about section. It really helps build customer confidence. If they don't have these I will always do some digging around on social media. You wouldn't believe the amount of sellers that don't have this information. You can add links to all your socials on your Etsy shop. Failing that, if you really love the item make sure they have a good amount of sales and reviews or reach out and ask any questions that you have. Most sellers just love creating what they create and may not have thought about some of these technical details.
Necklace
As someone who’s also a bit of a houseplant geek, this wooden necklace instantly went to the top of my wishlist when I saw it. The Etsy shop Layla Amber offers a range of beautiful handmade wooden necklaces and earrings, with themes including houseplants, knitting, crochet, baking, and even art! Perfect for anyone who loves nature or crafting.
Ring
I spent a long time looking for the perfect ring, and I was immediately drawn to this pretty silver needle ring from Martinsmartsilver on Etsy. It's simple yet elegant, making it a wonderful gift for any crafty soul who loves a bit of subtle jewellery.
Stickers
For fans of stationery and journaling, SamanthaClaridgeShop on Etsy offers a variety of fun, sewing-themed stickers. From quirky sayings to cute illustrations, these stickers are perfect for adding some crafty flair to your journals or planners.
Crochet Kit
If I don't receive some kind of crafty kit to work on over Christmas Day or Boxing Day, I’m a little disappointed! Crafted by Cat offers a wide selection of crochet kits with patterns that are easy to follow—perfect for anyone who loves to unwind with a crochet hook in hand.
Sewing Kit
Not into crochet? No worries! I found this adorable sewing kit from Pink Ladybird by Clare, which includes all the supplies needed to create cute animal designs (not toys!). I think Deidre Duck is particularly charming!
Macrame Kit
Macramé and houseplants just seem to go hand-in-hand, so I had to include a macramé kit in this list. SouthSea Macrame offers beautiful kits that would be a perfect project for anyone who enjoys creating things by hand. I’m sure this will put a smile on any crafty friend’s face!
Frame
If you're looking for something a little more decorative, I can personally recommend Cotswold Pewter. A few years ago, I treated myself to one of their sewing-themed Christmas tree decorations, and this year I spotted a charming frame on their shop that would make an ideal gift for anyone who loves sewing.
Mug
No crafty gift list is complete without a sewing-themed mug! UniqueP Gifts offers a wide range of beautiful mugs, all with positive reviews to back them up. Whether it's for coffee, tea, or just some crafty inspiration, these mugs make the perfect stocking filler.
Unpicker
Even the most seasoned sewists need a good unpicker in their kit! Why not make this essential tool a little prettier? This gorgeous unpicker from Snowy M Designs will take the sting out of those moments when you need to rip stitches. Functional and stylish—what’s not to love?
Crafty Book
A gift guide for sewers and crafters wouldn’t be complete without a crafty book! You may know Paula from The Crafty Lass for her fabric collections, but this year, she became a published author. Her Paper Flower Book would make an inspiring gift for anyone who loves crafting with paper. Pair it with some beautiful paper for an extra thoughtful present!
Pretty Threads
I’m often guilty of not splurging on the best threads for my sewing projects, but receiving a set as a gift would be extra special! This Aurifil Foliage Thread set from The Crafty Lass features a beautiful array of greens, which coordinate perfectly with her fabric collections. It’s a lovely treat for any sewist who loves quality materials.
Garment Labels
No handmade garment is complete without a personalised label, and What Vicki Made offers a great selection. Vicki, a former contestant on The Great British Sewing Bee, now offers her own fabric range and other sewing essentials. I love adding her labels to my handmade garments—it makes the piece feel even more special. I have a couple of her designs in my stash.
Quilting Template
I couldn’t complete this list without giving a little shout-out to Fabric Squirrel. This year, I’m spotlighting my hexagon quilting template. My husband and I designed these templates to help with sewing projects, and I’ve been selling them alongside my bunting templates for years. Take a look at my Liberty Quilt project for inspiration on how to use it.
Gift Card
If all else fails, why not treat someone special to a Fabric Squirrel gift card? You can arrange for the email to be sent directly to the recipient on a specific day, and since there’s no expiry date, they can save it for when they need it for their next project.
That wraps up my 2024 crafty gift guide! I hope this list inspires you, whether you're shopping for a fellow crafter or dropping hints for yourself.
Happy gifting, and happy crafting!
